Swap Your Words

I had to REALLY work on reducing saying “say x!” when I first started working with late talkers (and I still catch myself!) 

But what SHOULD we say? Swap direct requests to repeat a word with open ended comments. This is going to be an effective way to build your little one’s anticipation while reducing pressure so they feel more comfortable and confident communicating! 

Try this strategy during their familiar speech routines and you will see them initiate where they used to only imitate.
