I’m so pumped to kick off our next series on embedding communication support in daily routines! I love collaborating with parents by brainstorming ways we can “sneak in” communication practice. We know that daily practice typically results in faster progress .. but embedding communication support into your pre-existing routine makes it easier on everyone! This is one of my favorite speechie lifehacks.
Here are some ways to address communicative functions (fancy way for saying the different reasons we communicate), basic concepts, and listening skills into your everyday routine!
I like targeting communication skills while getting dressed for the day and getting ready for bed. You tend to be face to face with your child, which allows for effective modeling of sounds and words! I also appreciate that the language concepts strengthen alongside their gross and fine motor development. They are able to understand and participate more, resulting in greater independence!
What else do you target while getting your child dressed?
