My niece came up with this fun twist on the ever so popular fishing game! She put her @pawpatrol and @danieltigertv figurines in the water and turned the game into a carousel! I love the things kids come up with. You can easily try this activity using figurines or objects with your child. Here are my tips to promote communication skills:
TURN TAKING: have each figurine take turns waiting in “line” for & getting on/off the carousel. Talk about whose turn it is and comment on how the other characters are waiting patiently.
PREPOSITIONS: Target location concepts by naming the places where the characters should “sit.” Next to Marshall, in between Sky and Chase, behind Rocky, etc. Your child can put the character in the place you say or describe to you where the character is.
EXPRESSIVE/SOCIAL LANGUAGE: you can use pretend play as a means to practice what sentences to say and questions to ask in a certain situation. How would the character buy a ticket to the carousel? What could they say if they were scared and wanted to get off? What would they say if they were having a great time? It may seem simple to us adults, but pretend play is a great way to target perspective taking.
