Number of Targets

Kids are exposed to hundreds of items, objects, and pictures over the course of a day. And while it is a great idea to narrate actions and label nouns to build their comprehension.. sometimes “less is more” when it comes to supporting your early communicator’s USE of language!

.
Think about a play kitchen set. You could 1. go through and label every single food item and utensil that your child finds.. OR 2. emphasize 3-5 target words like yum, yuck, eat, drink, or all done throughout the activity multiple times! Emphasizing words that occur frequently (regardless of what’s for dinner) is a great way to ensure your child is learning how to use words that make a big impact on their day.
.
What other words do you target during mealtime/pretend food play?
