Rethink FaceTime

Sitting or standing in a way that allows for face to face eye contact with your baby is such a great way to support social interaction and communication development! As your baby learns your face and features, they also take in information regarding your speech movements and facial expressions. This dynamic visual input is fascinating for babies to observe and also helps them to develop vocalizationz, babbling, sound play, and eventually their first word.
.
Here are some of my favorite ways to get in some quality face (-to-face) time.
.
👉Push your baby in a swing from the front instead of behind and and model “wee!” or “go!”
👉While reading a book with your little on your lap.. set up a baby friendly mirror in front of you so they can see your face as you read.
👉While eating a meal or snack, sit across or adjacent to your child instead of next to them.
👉Sing songs with finger movements with your child sitting on your lap facing you.
👉Go on a “house tour” (throwback to MTV cribs 🤪) and talk about things you see with your little on your hip so they can see you. You can stop at mirrors along the way and establish eye contact!
